"In Other Words"

"Once in a while you have to take a break and visit yourself ." - Audrey Giorgi
It seems appropriate that my first entry into Christian Women Online's "In Other Words" Blog Participation Event should be to write about the quote above and what it means to me.

I think this is what I am doing right now in order to try and get better. I am taking a break in order to get to know myself better and hopefully heal. Tomorrow I will meet with my counselor in order to get to the bottom of why I cannot escape this depression that continues to haunt me. Not only the depression but the searing self loathing that has accompanied it.

In my head I know that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I know that the LORD knows the number of hairs on my head and that He has plans for me that are for good and not for evil. Yet my heart feels differently. I need to get to the place where my head and my heart know and believe the same things.

I need to take this time to learn what is good and pleasant and honorable about me. Bob tells me what is good about me and I fear to believe it. Yet I need to take this time to learn what it is that others like about me. I know what is not good about me and what needs improvement. I am going to take this break in order to visit myself and learn what it is that God has implanted inside of me that is good and worthy of life.

If any of you have any encouraging verses you can pass my way, please leave them in the comments section. I will use this break to look them up, reflect on them and apply them to how I might get to know myself better through the eyes of God.

Whom I have in heaven but You?
And earth has nothing I desire beside You.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psam 73:25-26

Feel better soon Amy

There are so many!!!!
Two that come to mind though, would be Jeremiah 29:11-14. I cling to that one and have made it my Life verse!
Another is Psalm 91
Many of the Psalms are a balm...as David cried out to the Lord for so many reasons. They apply to us for today!
Amy, you are NOT flawed but are...oops another comes to mind! Read Psalm 139!!! You are fearlessly and wonderfully made! You are made in God's image and are his Bride (we who are His, are ALL His bride). God does NOT make mistakes nor are you one!! He thought of you in Eternity Past, you were His idea! You were planned...not only by your parents BUT by Him! The lies in your head come from the enemy of the one who created you. That one, seeks to destroy! He does NOT have dominion over you because you are a Child of The One True God!
I have a sense that you will heal! That you are making a way out of this fog that has enveloped you because of the prayers going forth on your behalf!!!
If you have a concordence in your Bible go there and find all the words that you can think of that describe how you're feeling. Then find the words that you are hoping to feel once you are healed. Do you have a book of God's promises? Read those...over and over if you have to, so they become ingrained in your mind!
I don't know where you have picked up that you are worthless? If others have made you believe that...it's NOT true!! You are beloved!!

Psalm 139:17,18
How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great the sums of them! If I should count them, they shall be multiplied above the sand: I have awaked, and am still with thee.

Since my son's death just 19 months ago, this has been a precious verse to me. I understand depression, and dealing with it. It's such an up and down type emotional life, and am thankful you have a husband like I do, loving us through this. My hope is, this is NOT forever, it's only a drop in the bucket, compared to eternity. {{{{hugs}}}}

Thank you for sharing this in this quote writing. I enjoyed writing for this too, and reading the comparissons.

Something I once heard was, and it's so precious...God saves all of our tears in vials and there is a time when he will pour them out and they will be like a sweet fragrance. He doesn't love our pain but our tears, from that pain are precious to him. He loves us so much and, if not for this fallen world (sin), he would love for us NOT to have the aches and pains that we go through.
My prayer for you would partially be...that God will use this time of pain, that you are experiencing and it will be to his glory. That somehow you will be able to use it to minister to others...after you heal and recover, of course.

"Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost

Isaiah 55

he has so many good things for us and he wants to fill us up...

Blessings to you

Lately I have turned to Phillipians chapter 4 which is an exortation to believers to stand fast in the Lord. The whole chapter has wonderful verses to meditate on.

I pray peace for you.
